Reeds Field

The series Reeds Field is a collaboration with a few friends from Cape Town. For my fashion shoot assignment at Cape Town School of Photography I reached out to my friends, who were already working as team to promote their designer clothes, modelling and photography careers.

In my head I had a clear idea how I wanted to use the unique look of model Danni and the white clothes of Natalie. I immediately saw a strong woman; pure and sacred but not conventional, peaceful and yet a warrior, an independent queen with her own queendom.

In retrospect I think the theme emerged unconsciously from deep within - a wish I have for women all over the world: To rise strong in a peaceful way, to be able to protect themselves with their wisdom and queendom, to step out the conventional way and be(come) their own destiny.

Still now, even in first world countries like Switzerland there is no proper equality between man and woman. Even worse, in many countries being a woman is not safe. Having lived in South Africa for several years, a country where domestic violence and femicide have high numbers in crime statistics, it was and is important to me to put independency, strength and uniqueness of a woman before the conventional sex sells of a fashion shoot. Women should feel inspired to be strong and rule their world, instead of pleasing where and what society wants them to be.

Die Serie Reeds Field (Schilffeld) ist eine Zusammenarbeit mit ein paar Freunden aus Kapstadt. Für meinen Mode-Shooting-Auftrag an der Cape Town School of Photography habe ich mich an meine Freunde gewandt, die bereits als Team daran gearbeitet haben, ihre Karriere als Designer, Model und Fotograf voranzutreiben.

 Bereits von Anfang an hatte ich eine klare Vorstellung, wie ich den einzigartigen Look von Modell Danni und die weissen Kleider von Natalie einsetzen wollte. Ich sah eine starke Frau; rein und sakral, aber nicht konventionell, friedlich und doch eine Kriegerin, eine unabhängige Königin mit ihrem eigenen Königreich.

 Im Nachhinein denke ich, dass mich das Thema unbewusst aus tiefstem Inneren angeregt hat – ein Wunsch, den ich für Frauen auf der ganzen Welt habe: Auf friedliche Weise stark zu werden, sich mit Weisheit und dem eigenen Reich zu schützen, den konventionellen Weg zu verlassen und das eigene Schicksal in die Hand zu nehmen.

Noch heute gibt es selbst in Ländern der Ersten Welt wie der Schweiz keine echte Gleichberechtigung zwischen Mann und Frau. Schlimmer noch in vielen Ländern ist es nicht sicher eine Frau zu sein. Nachdem ich mehrere Jahre in Südafrika gelebt habe, einem Land in dem häusliche Gewalt und Femizid hohe Zahlen in der Kriminalstatistik aufweisen, war und ist es mir wichtig die Unabhängigkeit, Stärke und Einzigartigkeit einer Frau dem konventionellen Sex-Sells eines Mode-Shootings vorzuziehen. Frauen sollten sich inspiriert fühlen stark zu sein und ihre Welt zu beherrschen, anstatt zu gefallen und so zu sein wo und wie die Gesellschaft sie haben will.
